Why Facebook addiction is a no-go in the workplace

Though you probably don't spend all of your workday in the stairwell or the bathroom, the reason why a lot of employers are establishing policies that ban sites like Facebook is the loss of productivity. One often-cited study published in July 2009 by Nucleus Research involved a small sample of 237 employees and the resulting loss of productivity was a meager 1.47 percent. Since then, other studies, including one from the University of Melbourne, concluded that "workplace Internet leisure browsing" can actually improve workers' concentration.
However, a new career may still be in your best interests, considering what Brent Coker from the University of Melbourne told PCWorld.com about people like you: "Those who behave with Internet addiction tendencies will have a lower productivity than those without." Best to find a different course and embrace a career that wants you--and your high-achieving Facebook profile--just the way you are.

Turn Your Organizational Habits into a Solid Career.Parts 1

**Career job information for job seekers and find good   employment job

 By Joe Taylor

You're organized. On your desk, in your kitchen, and in every other location that you have even one iota of control over--everything has its place. While it may never have seemed like a great thing to put on your resume, you could be missing out on some serious career opportunities. Check out the hottest career paths for highly organized people like yourself, learn all about the education--whether it be a college degree or a certificate--you need to break into one of these fields.

Health Care Training: Rewarding for Organized Professionals

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projected that the health care industry would add up to four million jobs from 2006 to 2016. In addition, investigators and critics have demanded that employers do more to address mistakes and delays in care caused by overworked or disorganized professionals. Because of this, many hospitals and private practices have raised the bar for new hires, seeking out the most motivated and organized applicants. Graduates of nursing certificate programs gain exposure to the latest tools that help organize medication dispensing, shift rotations, and patient monitoring.
Over 587,000 of the jobs created in the health care sector will be for registered nurses. Though the 2008 BLS survey reports the median annual salary for registered nurses at $57,280, highly organized nurses with college degrees can earn their way into the top ten percent of their field, earning over $83,000 per year. Nursing training programs that emphasize technology and high degrees of organization can help prospective nurses land some of the best new jobs in this growing field.

Learn Cutting-Edge Writing Techniques in an Online Certificate Program

BLS analysts project that the "information supersector" will grow by over six percent before 2016. Despite declines in employment at traditional newspapers, magazines, and broadcast outlets, the Internet has created tremendous new opportunities for highly organized specialists. According to experts Steve Pavlina and Darren Rowse, professional online writers can manage blogs that earn over $100,000 per year. BLS data places the median annual salary for a full-time writer at $48,640.
Whether self-employed or working for an established publisher, successful writers must combine technical skills with the discipline required to meet ongoing deadlines. An online certificate program in writing can help prospective "probloggers" develop the authoritative voices required to capture both readers and advertisers. Likewise, business training programs geared for creative professionals can help writers learn how to run profitable publishing and service businesses. ( jobs employment )

Education for Leadership

**Career job information for job seekers and find good   employment job

One might think, in that case, that leadership is easy enough to pick up. And, in fact, the basics are readily enough taught, even to children. Consider the following episode from C.S. Lewis's children's stories, The Chronicles of Narnia. In A Horse and His Boy, Lewis tells the story of two princes separated at birth, the older of whom is brought up in a distant land by a fisherman. After various adventures, Cor is reunited with his younger brother, Corin, and their father, King Lune. To his dismay, Cor learns that as the older son he is to become king.
"But Father, couldn't you make whichever you like to be the next King?"

"No. The King's under the law, for it's the law makes him a king. Has not more power to start away from thy crown than any sentry from his post."

"Oh, dear," said Cor. "I don't want to at all. And Corin--I am most dreadfully sorry. I never dreamed my turning up was going to chisel you out of your kingdom."

"Hurrah! Hurrah!" said Corin. "I shan't have to be King. I shan't have to be King. I'll be a prince. It's princes have all the fun."

"And that's truer than thy brother knows, Cor," said King Lune. "For this is what it means to be a king: To be first in every desperate attack and last in every desperate retreat, and when there's hunger in the land (as must be now and then in bad years) to wear finer clothes and laugh louder over a scantier meal than any man in your land."
In a passage readily accessible to an intelligent 10-year-old, one has some fundamental principles of leadership at hand. Cor has already begun to learn the difference between responsibility and office and the importance of personal example in both prosperity and adversity, of cheerfulness in the midst of difficulty and, implicitly, of visible self-sacrifice for a larger good.

Good military organizations obsess about the importance of developing good junior leaders. Understanding full well the terrible stresses war puts on soldiers, they know that formal authority may count for very little in a pinch. During the siege of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, for example, the nominal commander of a beleaguered French base in the Laotian highlands was deposed by a committee of middle-ranking officers. The general ended up taking a backseat as a small band of majors and lieutenant colonels organized a desperate and, in the end, impossible defense of their surrounded outpost.

Modern armies seek not merely willing and intelligent obedience, but initiative--often in situations of ultimate difficulty. They, too, begin with the basics. In 1942, General William Slim led a badly battered polyglot army of Indian and British soldiers out of Burma: They had barely avoided annihilation at the hands of a Japanese force superior in virtually every respect. He had the task of rebuilding not only the form of the organization but its spirit, and for that reason his memoir, Defeat Into Victory, is well worth reading. One of his speeches to officers included this famous sentence: "I tell you, as officers, that you will not eat, sleep, smoke, sit down or lie down until your soldiers have had a chance to do these things. If you do this, they will follow you to the ends of the earth. If you do not, I will break you in front of your regiments."

As military organizations seek to create effective junior leaders, they pound into them these kinds of simple maxims: "The fellow in charge eats last." "Your priorities are, in this order, your mission, your men, yourself." "Don't ask your people to do something that you are not prepared to do." "The command is not 'forward,' but 'follow me.'" In a myriad of ways, they create circumstances in which junior leaders must put these maxims into practice and, in military organizations with well developed noncommissioned officers systems, they pair the new officer with a sergeant or petty officer who is a nominal subordinate (though 15 years or so older than the new lieutenant or ensign) but actually a kind of leadership coach.

The maxims of elementary leadership are thus quite simple--although, of course, often difficult to live by. One need only look at the wretched corporate scandals of recent months to see how easy it is for those at the top of organizations to think of perquisites as rights, to forget that simple mantra of "My mission, my men, myself." Nor is this any less true of governmental or nonprofit organizations than of

Writing A Will - Consider A Letter Of Wishes

Career job information for job seekers and find good  employment job

 by: Steven Tomey

As Will Writers in London we are often making a Will for our customers to help deal with contentious issues.

What do we mean by that, well writing a Will and leaving a legacy to someone who perhaps an outsider would assume is not the natural beneficiary.
Excluding certain persons by means of a Will may well be challenged and upheld in Court.
Below is a list of certain persons who are most likely be given an award if they are believed to have been unjustly treated:
  • Your husband or wife
  • Any former wife or civil partner provided she or he has not remarried or has entered into a subsequent civil partnership, or an order of the Court bars any claim
  • Any child of yours
  • Any person not being your own child who in the case of any marriage of yours was treated by you as a child of the family in relation to that marriage
  • Any other person who immediately prior to your death was being maintained wholly or in part by you
A Will tends to deal with facts and could be viewed as a cold and impersonal document which is devoid of emotion. The reason Wills are made in this way is to avoid ambiguity. The Courts will of course refer to the Will in assessing the claim but what a Will does not cover is the rationale behind the decision, and as the testator is obviously not there to act as their own witness certain assumptions might be made. The most likely is that there was undue influence and pressure applied by the beneficiary.
Our London based Will Consultants are trained to spot and anticipate potential problems, and as a standard practice we advise a Letter of Wishes is written and stored with the Will. It is also wise to issue a copy to the Executors for safekeeping.
What does the Letter of Wishes do? Well in the testator own hand it details the exact reason for the disbursement of the assets to the beneficiary, and why in their opinion this is justified. This Letter of Wishes will be read in Court and acts as a voice from the grave. From a practical point of view it also shows that this was a deliberate and pre-meditated act as it takes time to write such a letter. As it is hand written it also can be traced and accredited directly to the testator. And unlike, a plain signature it is difficult to exert undue pressure to write a whole letter.
As part of our London Will Service we can provide free Letter of Wishes templates to prospective testators to help them construct the letter appropriately.
If you are thinking of writing a Will do not leave the challenge of excluded persons to chance support the Will by writing a Letter of Wishes – it will help achieve exactly what you want. And hey, where's there's a Will, there's a way of doing just that!

Three Words That Will Kill Your Cover Letter

Career job information for job seekers and find good  jobs employment

 by: Gavin Davis
It's pretty easy to recognize a terrible cover letter within the first 2 seconds of reading one. People tend to forget that this document is a sales tool - you use it to sell yourself to a prospective employer. That being said, it's very easy to ruin your potential sale with just a few simple words.
The most important thing you need to do when writing your cover letter is remember that the person reading it cares about what you have to offer them, not about who you are in general. When you start off with "My name is..." a hiring manager is immediately going to think that he or she is about to read a life story, and they won't be particularly interested. While it may be anything but a mini-autobiography, it doesn't matter when you've already turned off the reader with those 3 words.
Starting off with "My name is..." is pretty irrelevant when you think about it. Your name is already at the top of the page, or it's listed as the return name in your email message; you don't need to remind them a third time. Instead, you need to focus on why you are writing this letter, and stick to just that.
It's important to keep cover letters short and very straight-forward. Hiring managers are very busy and they don't have time to read more than a few short paragraphs. Your writing needs to be engaging and interesting; you want the reader to feel compelled to read the entire thing - you don't want them to get turned off immediately. Hiring managers tend to skim through cover letters quickly, so it's important to highlight the most important details: why you are contacting them and why you are qualified. They aren't interested in much more, so make sure you keep it simple.
Your goals (in addition to eventually getting hired) are to have your resume read and to be called in for an interview, so try to use all the tools you can to make that possible. Remember these tips when writing your cover letter, and I guarantee you'll find more success in getting called for an interview.
Good luck!

Job Search Tip: Add an Effective Objective to Your Resume

Career job information for job seekers and find good  jobs employment

A missing or lame Objective section can get your resume tossed in the trash in a matter of seconds. There are quite simply too many better resumes out there to bother with yours. Yet most job seekers do a poor job with the objective.
Here a resume writing tip: toward the top just above your "Keyword Competencies" paragraph, put your "Objective" section which is quite simply the object of your job search, the title of the job you are seeking.
Here's a Bad Example:
Most people put in a title such as "Software Developer" or, "Lighthouse Keeper" or, "Marketing Director" or "Product Manager" or "NASCAR Pit Boss" in some long droning sentence that reads like:
Objective:
"Challenging opportunity as a (title) where I can effectively use my managing and sales skills in my ongoing effort to help grow an organization, blah, blah..."
This is not only boring, it's also highly ineffective. Your resume has only so much available space and your potential reader so little time. This sort of verbiage does not transmit key information that will widen your net.
Use the "Objective" to do one thing, focus on your objective.
Here's a Better Example:
Instead of just filling out the target title as "JAVA Programmer", for instance, also list other closely allied titles that the searcher may be searching on. For instance:
Objective:
"Java Programmer, Software Engineer, Application Developer, Software Developer."
Use each section in your resume to answer one question only. By putting several potential titles in the Objective heading (and leaving out the skill-set info of the first example), you tighten up your focus and you widen your net. Even within larger companies, there may be several different job requisitions at any one time. For example, it hasn't been uncommon for a company to have concurrent openings for "Java Programmer", "Software Developer", "Software Engineer", all of which you may well be qualified for. So don't limit yourself with your objective title. Use this space to your best advantage and you will reap greater returns.

While Growth Rate Moderates, IT Employment Remains At Record Level

**Career job information for job seekers and find favorite employment job   now**

Posted By: Technology Staff Editor

While the news in the general employment market in September ranged from dismal to dire, IT employment posted a modest increase and delivered another all-time high during the month, according to the National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses (NACCB), which tracks monthly IT employment. The association reported IT employment reached 3,925,600 in September, a record high. While the September gain of 3,600 (.1%) from the previous month was modest (there were downward revisions of prior months reflecting the BLS downward adjustments), IT employment continues to display surprising resilience. From September 2007 through the current month, IT employment was up 4.9 percent - far outpacing the general employment market.

The broader job market continues to shed jobs, losing 159,000 jobs in September alone. While general unemployment held steady at 6.1% in September (up 1.4% since a year ago) after surging .4% in August, the unemployment rate for college educated workers (the BLS does not specifically track IT unemployment on a monthly basis) actually receded from 2.7% in August to 2.5% in September. "While a number of my member companies report softening demand in certain geographic regions and among clients in certain sectors, the resilience of overall IT employment to-date remains heartening," said Mark Roberts, CEO of NACCB, in a press release. "While the long-term growth prospects of IT employment remain very strong, it is unclear how IT employment will continue to fare in the short-term and mid-term in the face of deteriorating conditions in the broader economy," he added. The IT employment index is published by the National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses (NACCB), the national trade association representing IT staffing and solutions firms.

Aerospace Engineering Employment Takes Off

**Career job information for job seekers and find favorite employment job   now**

WASHINGTON — Aerospace employment increased in March, bucking the national manufacturing jobs decline.

The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), based here, said Tuesday (May 13) that the number of aerospace engineering jobs reached 651,700 in March, a slight increase of about 6,100 jobs over the 2007 year-end average.

AIA said aerospace employment has climbed steadily since bottoming out at 587,100 in 2003. The industry group attributed the steady rise in jobs to record industry sales, which are expected to top $210 billion in 2008.

"While overall manufacturing employment has declined, our civil, defense and space sectors are strong with a record backlog of orders fueled by major export growth," AIA President and CEO Marion Blakey said in a statement.

Record sales are being driven by orders for the Airbus A380 passenger jet and Boeing's 787 Dreamliner. Airbus said this week it will not deliver as many A380s in 2008 as planned.

AIA also said the aerospace industry is facing a engineering shortfall as many employees reach retirement age. Almost 60 percent of U.S. aerospace workers were 45 or older in 2007, according to an AIA survey.

A New Report Shows IT At All Time Employment High

**Career job information for job seekers and find favorite employment job   now**

 Posted By: Courtney Carpenter

According to the National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses NACCB, IT employment reached an all-time high of 3,907,800 in June. Additionally, IT has grown by almost 90,000 jobs compared to the overall employment market that has lost 438,000 jobs. “In light of deteriorating conditions in the general employment market, I am heartened by the continued resilience of IT employment,” said Mark Roberts, NACCB’s chief executive officer, in a press release.

While workers are in demand to fill IT positions, the challenge employers are facing is finding qualified candidates.

In a released report by Robert Half Technology, 77% of the 1,400 chief information officers surveyed admitted “it has been equally or more challenging to find skilled candidates for IT jobs than it was last year.” What’s the cause? Shortage of qualified IT workers. 52% of CIOs cited the shortage as the primary cause behind finding workers to fill the open positions.

Thomas Sweetman, chief operations officer at Productive Data Solutions, a staffing firm, agrees that there is a gap between experienced workers within the IT industry. “There’s a void in the market because we have the people with 2+ years of experience compared to the people with 15+ years of experience who survived the downturn of the market, and who will retire in the next 15-20 years,” he said.

While filling jobs with qualified candidates is challenging, the report also highlighted three in-demand areas of IT. “Despite economic uncertainty and a more competitive job market, there are still talent shortages in certain IT specialties, such as applications development, web development and network administration,” said Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology.

Despite the decline in the general employment market, it’s encouraging to know that employment within the IT field is improving and that there are jobs waiting to be filled.

Happy hunting!

21st Century Career Success

21St Century Career Success
By Michelle L. Casto
Copyright 2000-2008

When it comes to modern career development, one thing we can all count on is change. With the advent of technology, telecommuting, and E-commerce, how work is performed is in a state of reinvention. Self-employment and small business development will become more the norm than big business. And career changes will be more frequent due to rapidly changing organizations and industries. Finally, the line between one’s personal and professional life will become even more blurred. Since the modern world of work is rapidly changing to keep up with the demands of our fast-paced lives and lifestyles, here are some characteristics of what the new work contract will look like:
  • Seeking more meaning from work.
  • Equating “career success” with personal satisfaction over paycheck or status.
  • Everyone will need their own “name-brand.”
  • Increased use of technology.
  • Finding work that needs doing.
  • Changing in the way management and leadership is conducted (less arrogance at the top level, more power on lower levels).
  • Increased need for networking and self-marketing.
  • Lifelong “trying on” of various roles, jobs, and industries.
  • Creating a plan that is flexible, and continually assessing the “fit” of the work.
  • Increased representation of women and minorities in the workforce.
  • Changing career fields numerous times in a lifetime.
  • Self-responsibility: Everyone knowing they have to chart their own career direction.

However, the 21st century career also offers many advantages:
  • More career opportunities for everyone.
  • Freedom to choose from a variety of jobs, tasks, and assignments.
  • More flexibility in how and where work is performed, i.e. working from
    home or telecommuting.
  • More control over your own time.
  • Greater opportunity to express yourself through your work.
  • Ability to shape and reshape your life’s work in accordance with your values and interests.
  • Increased opportunity to develop other skills by working in various industries and environments.
  • Self-empowerment mindset.
  • Allows you to create situations or positions where you can fill a need in the world that is not being filled.
  • Opportunity to present yourself as an independent contractor or vendor with services to offer.

How can you successfully navigate through the turbulent times of change and career uncertainty? By developing resiliency, exercising proactively, creating excellent self-marketing tools, keeping your skills up-to-date, and finding your unique life balance.

  1. Develop resiliency (the ability to bounce back).
Having the right attitude about career change is imperative to your ability to bounce back from setbacks, sudden changes, and twists and turns along your career path. You will experience a lot of career change and transitions, so you may as well get comfortable feeling uncomfortable.
  2. Take a proactive approach to your career development
You must constantly be on the lookout for new ways to apply your gifts and talents in the new economy. This requires thinking creatively, actively promoting yourself/business, and being actively involved in how your career progresses. Staying involved in professional associations, and continuous networking is excellent ways to connect with other like-minded professionals.
  3. Create first-rate marketing materials
Always keep your resume current. You never know when you are going to want to share it with someone or pass it along. If you are in business for yourself, develop classy business cards and letterhead. Harness the power of the internet by developing an interactive website.
  4. Commit to lifelong learning
To keep earning, keep learning. Do not wait until you lose your job or want to look for another position to gain new skills or training. Recognize the need to be open to learning and attend classes related to your area of expertise to keep your skills sharp and marketable. Keep in mind the top skills needed for career success include: Communication, Computer-knowledge, Creativity, and Customer Care
  5. Find your unique life balance
There are four dimensions to life: love, labor, leisure, and learning. Remember that work is just one aspect of your life pie. Be sure to indulge in all of your areas. Because having an overall balanced life is what leads to the most fulfillments.
  6. Work with a life/career coach
Those who want to stay on an accelerated success track will find that working with a coach is not a luxury, but a necessity. Having the benefit of another perspective and the emotional support and mentoring of a coach is truly invaluable in these changing times. Coaches work by phone and often offer a complimentary session so there is no reason to “go it alone.” They have a road map, so hire a guide!

Michelle L. Casto, Ph.D. is known as the Soul Coach, because she helps people get in touch with the work that ignites their inner fire, and empowers them to shine their bright light in the world. As an inspirational speaker and author, she teaches people how to gain a higher understanding of themselves, and uses a unique Soul-Centered and Integrative process that taps into their passion, purpose, and power. Her latest book, Get Your Career on the Fast Track: A Navigational Guide for the Modern Manager is a comprehensive and interactive book that covers career management from A-Z.

How to Get Career Pilot Training

**Career job information for job seekers and find favorite employment job   now**

 By an eHow Contributor
Career pilots must have a commercial pilot's license, which differs from a private pilot's license. A commercial license allows a pilot to be paid for flying. Most career pilots work for commercial airlines, but they may also be employed as flight instructors after they obtain additional certifications. Some pilots fly cargo planes or traffic watch flights, or are skydiving pilots.
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Instructions

  1. 1
Meet entry requirements. Most flight instructors or flight schools have minimum requirements for students. At the least, you need a high school diploma. Some schools may require classes in math and physics, and you may also need a medical clearance.
  2. 2
Decide on the type of program you want. Career pilot training is available through university aviation programs. You can also get career instruction via a flight instructor or a flight school. If you want to earn a degree, a program through a university may be your best option.
  3. 3
Locate a school through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). They can provide a list of schools throughout the United States. They can also provide information on different certificates and licenses available for career pilots.
  4. 4
Consider a part 141 school. It offers a national certification after you meet all requirements. Part 141 schools are inspected by the FAA. They set some of the standards for the flight schools, such as curriculum.
  5. 5
Get flying time. You need to have a certain number of hours flying to qualify for a commercial pilot's license. If you go through a private flight instructor, you need a minimum of 250 hours flying. If you attend a part 141 flight school, you need a minimum of 190 hours flying time.
  6. 6
Attend ground school, which consists of classes on aerodynamics of flight, radio communications, navigation and engine operations. Ground school classes will be included in a university program, and many flight schools also offer ground school classes. If you get career pilot training through a private pilot, you need to find a ground school. Your instructor can refer you to a school.

Be prepared for topics you study while changing over to an Industrial Electrician career to also open up other non-industrial related career opportunities. For example, PLCs control most remote pump stations and water works equipment in every town and city in the USA. And they say working for the state with all its benefits, is looking pretty good during these current unstable economic times.
  2. Step 2
    Next step, make a plan:
So you have made the choice to prepare for an Industrial Electrician career. What training should you get first that can open the door the quickest for an Industrial Maintenance career?
  3. Step 3
    Plan Your Career direction:
If your previous Residential Maintenance job required you to maintain a state electrical license, the interviewer could see it as Industrial Maintenance Electrician experience. (Because unlike the variables involved in mechanical tasks, electrical tasks are standardized. For example, to install a breaker is the same skill and method in both the Residential Maintenance electrician job and the Industrial Maintenance electrician job.
  4. Step 4
    Get Career Training:
Quick career training can make a maintenance person's resume better. A prerequisite to being an Industrial Maintenance PLC Technician is often considered being a Basic Electrician. (We don't call it a rule at BIN because we have trained many Maintenance Mechanics with a little electrical knowledge to troubleshoot using a PLC. :>) So, at a minimum, the non-state licensed Residential Maintenance person should seek Industrial Electrician Training before PLC training.

The Development of Philippine Employment in The Advancement of Technology

by: Mary Diaz

The high unemployment rate was used to be a major problem in the Philippines way back in the late 1990's and early 2000. Employment growth was not sufficient to decrease unemployment because of the rapid growth of the population and increased labor force participation. This made lots of Filipino people leave the country and seek greener pasture in foreign lands.
The Filipinos leave the Philippines to work in foreign lands, and the foreign companies or establishments take advantage of their talents and skills. It is sad to know that these Filipinos could have stayed in their own land and contributed their skills to the development of their own country. This has been an ongoing problem by the Philippine government in the past few years.
Every year, millions of Filipinos leave the Philippines to work abroad to support their families. Most of the jobs filled by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) are doctors, nurses, accountants, engineers, architects, seafarers, caregivers, physical therapists, IT professionals, teachers, technicians, and domestic helpers or housemaids. The exodus includes an increasing number of experienced skilled workers with training and certificate in the mechanical and electrical field regardless of whether they have completed a bachelor's degree or not. An exodus production of skilled workers mostly fly to middle eastern countries and some parts of Africa.
The past administration gave importance to this unemployment problem and established job campaigns by promoting tourism with foreign investors. It was remarkably seen as a successful campaign because of the increasing demand of workers particularly in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industries. The recent report from National Statistics Office (NSO) showed that the unemployment rate dipped to 6.9% as of July 2010 compared to last year that was 7.6%.
The emergence of BPO industry is a significant factor that contributed a huge effect in the unemployment rate of the country. Call center companies comprise 80% of the BPO industry and it is now regarded as one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Thousands of young individuals ventured into this flourishing career that do not require a complete bachelor's degree and provides attractive compensation. The advancement of technology created a lot of prospering careers for the young Filipino people and made them choose to stay rather than work abroad and being far from their families and loved ones.
